If you are interested in any of the following staff positions, please e-mail Christine and let her know which one. If accepted you will be asked to fill out the form on the staff page – but only the information you are comfortable with sharing.
»General Staff Member
A general staff member does most of the things the webmistress does and therefore requires the most time out of all of these positions. This position currently involves posting news, creating and editing pages, working on the gallery and video archive and looking for/adding affiliates. They should be familiar with cPanel, an FTP client of their choice, WordPress, Coppermine Gallery, PHPmotion and Affiliationally or be willing to learn. Using Google Alerts is recommended so they can receive news items via e-mail and post any relevent articles that have not already been posted on the site. They should also be willing to learn about other scripts just in case more are used as the site continues to grow. It is recommended they understand a minimal amount of coding but it is not a necessity as some pages have pre-formatted bases.
»News Poster
A news poster must either be familiar with WordPress or be willing to learn. It is recommended that they be willing to set it up so they can receive Google Alerts to receive news items via e-mail and be able to scour the internet for news that is current and has not already been posted on the site by anyone else. They should also know which news sites are more reliable than others.
»Gallery Moderator
A gallery moderator must either be familiar with Coppermine Gallery and an FTP client of their choice or be willing to learn. They will be making sure all comments made on images in the gallery are appropriate and deleting those that aren’t. They will be working closely with the webmistress who will be occasionally sending them new images to add to the gallery.
»Image Collector
An image collector should have access to image sites and/or forums to be able to find new high quality images for the gallery. Solely using Google’s image search will not be acceptable although it can be used in addition to image sites and/or forums. This job does not require being familiar with Coppermine Gallery as they will be sending the images to the webmistress who will sort through them before either adding them to the gallery herself or sending them to a gallery moderator to add.
»Media Manager
A media manager should be able to rip video and audio files from various sources for our video archive and be familiar with, or be wiling to learn about, PHPmotion. While YouTube can be a great source for videos, it should not be the only source used for videos for a number of reasons but partially because sometimes it is difficult to tell which videos are fan-made and which aren’t.
»Actor Aficionado
An actor aficionado should be someone who is as much a fan of at least one of the actors as they are of the show. They will be in charge of making sure that their specific actor(s)’s pages are kept up to date, most notably the filmography and awards/nominations, and as complete as possible without delving too far into their personal lives. An actor aficionado can also help other staff members by sharing images and/or videos of the actors they choose to be an aficionado for. When applying for this job, please let the webmistress know which actor(s) you would most like to help keep updated.
»Time Lord Historian
A Time Lord historian has the important task of helping the members of the staff who have not yet delved into the world of Classic Who. As of now the site is currently dedicated solely to the era known as New Who (2005+) and it does come as a problem at times when characters, events, etc. from the Classic era are referenced in or even a major part of New Who and we would like to include as accurate of a history as we can. The Time Lord historian will help to fill in those blanks, such as Sarah Jane’s life and travels with the Doctor before the episode “School Reunion” and previous encounters with various aliens including, but not limited to, Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans and Silurians. Depending on how much time and knowledge a Time Lord historian has to offer to the site, it could mean the addition of a section of the site dedicated entirely to Classic Who. When applying for the position, please let the webmistress know if there are any aspects of Classic Who you know better than others for whatever reason.
»Magazine Scanner
There are two aspects to a magazine scanner’s job. The first is to find issues of magazines in which Doctor Who is featured. The second part is to scan the article(s) associated with New Who. The only magazines this does not apply to are magazines which feature Doctor Who in full such as Doctor Who Magazine (DWM), Torchwood Magazine (TWM) and Doctor Who Adventures (DWA). For those only the covers will be scanned. Currently the webmistress has access to DWM and TWM so those are all taken care of. Any other magazines, however, are fair game for the scanning. It is up to the magazine scanner to decide if they themselves would like to upload their scans to the gallery or send them to the webmistress to take care of. For the first option, they should be familiar with or be willing to learn about Coppermine Gallery and an FTP client of their choice. For this job, it is necessary for anyone who applies to have access to a scanner and an image editing software.
»Reading Fanatic
A reading fanatic is someone who, along with loving to watch episodes Doctor Who, Torchwood and/or the Sarah Jane Adventures, loves to read official novels and novelisations based on the series. The job of a reading fanatic is to read said novels/novelisations and take notes based on them. The note taking goes from being as straightforward as writing down the names of the characters that appear/are mentioned in the stories to as ambitious as making notes of references to actual episodes, other novels/novelisations and interesting plot points. When applying, please let the webmistress know which novels/novelisations you will be able to read.
»Audio Junkie
An audio junkie does much the same thing as a reading fanatic, only instead of reading the novels/novelisations, they listen to audio exclusive adventures and take notes on them. The note taking is very much the same as the notes a reading fanatic will take, however, spelling will be a bit of a difficulty so an audio junkie must be willing to make their best guess or look up the proper spelling if it known somewhere else. When applying, please let the webmistress know which audio exclusive adventures you will be able to listen to.
»Helper
A helper does not have any one specific job. They are there to help the webmistress or other staff members when they need it. One day they could be looking up information online, adding information to pages or watching episodes of Doctor Who, Torchwood or The Sarah Jane Adventures to find some points of interest and the next they could be doing something entirely different. Anyone who applies to be a helper should be flexible when it comes to what they do and have room in their lives for some spontaneity. All of their work will then be sent back to the staff member who asked for help. They should also inform the webmistress what they are and are not willing or capable of doing.
