Karen Gillan has promised fans “surprises” in upcoming episodes of Doctor Who.

The actress brushed off the suggestion that there was a ‘romantic tension’ between Matt Smith’s Doctor and her character Amy Pond which had been ‘done before’.

Gillan said: “There’s a really interesting dynamic between them. There are many levels to it. She won’t be following him around like a lovesick puppy. There are some surprises ahead.”

When asked how she felt about being called The Doctor’s sexiest ever companion, she added: “Very weird, but I’m flattered.

Doctor Who has a long line of sexy companions, it’s nothing new. I don’t particularly aspire to be sexy, I just want to play the part well.”

Gillan confirmed that she was not a fan of the show before winning the role of Amy and explained: “My mom’s a fan but I wasn’t. When I was younger I watched Star Trek: Voyager but Doctor Who passed me by. My introduction was getting a part in it.”
