Newcomer Karen Gillan hints at Doctor Who romance

Doctor Who star Karen Gillan is keeping quiet about a possible romance between her character Amy Pond and the famous Time Lord, according to reports.

Gillan, 22, recently appeared in the cult BBC sci-fi show for the first time when it aired on UK TV over Easter, alongside actor Matt Smith, who also made his debut as the famous Doctor.

Asked if their characters will ever be anything more than just friends, the Scots actress said: ‘Well, I can’t say whether there’ll be romance or not, but that would never be the main reason the Doctor and Amy are together.

‘Ultimately, they’re both adventurers and lost souls who find each other.’

Gillan added that she is glad she and Smith, 27, both made their debut in the show at the same time.

She said to UK magazine Closer: ‘I feel really lucky to be going through this with someone else. We’ve got a great bond now, we’re good friends.’
