Matt Smith made his pals “go cold” with his acting talents while at drama school, actress Becci Gemmell has revealed.

Becci, who’s returning to her role as Joyce in wartime drama Land Girls, revealed that she studied drama with the Doctor Who star at university and that he was always bound to be a star.

She said: “I haven’t seen him for a long time but we did plays together at uni. He was amazing. I remember him doing an audition speech for Ghosts – I ended up playing his mum – and he just made us go cold.

“It was like raw talent had walked in and the rest of us were all just fumbling about trying to work out what drama’s all about but he had it in spades, he just knew.”

She added: “I definitely thought ‘this guy is going to be famous’.”
