The recent fourth series of Doctor Who is the most watched programme on the BBC’s iPlayer since the online service started last year.

The popular drama series, starring David Tennant as the Time Lord, was also a big hit with more traditional TV viewers with the series averaging a sizeable 8.1m (38.7%) on BBC1. The 13-part run ended with a massive 10.4m (48.2%) on 5 July this year.

The corporation’s iPlayer was made available to the public on Christmas Day last year.

BBC2′s motoring show Top Gear has also been a big hit with online views with both the 11th and 12th series of the programme managing to gain silver and bronze medals.
